Inclusive job opportunities for all – MIT, Zantchito
Players in the hospitality sector are being asked to create inclusive job opportunities that feature women with physical disabilities.
According to Malawi Institute of Tourism (MIT) officials, the deliberate move will enhance job creation for various departments including the front desk duties.
MIT training manager Happy Kalongonda hopes that the move will also encourage other women to start their own ventures like restaurants.
She said: “We expect that a lot of women will also be able to start their own businesses that will contribute to the economic growth of this country while at the same time complementing to the government agenda by offering employment to the young students.”
Team leader for the British Council pioneered Zantchito Project, Dick Maganga said: “Disability is not inability. This is why we are encouraging even those with disabilities to be passionate about achieving their dreams.”
According to the 2018 Population and Housing Census, there are 1,734,250 persons with disabilities in Malawi, representing about 11.6 percent of the total population aged above 5 years.
Of the total population of persons with disabilities, 134,636 are persons with albinism.
