NPC speaks in support of budget blueprint

Touted private sector Masoo
The National Planning Commission (NPC) is recommending the alignment of the 2024/ 2025 budget with Malawi’s first 10-year implementation plan for the country to achieve the Malawi 2063 vision (MIP1).
NPC commissioner Mercy Masoo made the remarks on Monday during an engagement which the commission had with legislators from various clusters in Lilongwe.
According to Masoo, the analysis which has been developed by the commission indicates strong progress on how the current financial year budget has been aligned to the aspirations of MIP1.
“The meeting was aimed at providing insights to MPs on how best they can re-align the budget by allocating resources to key productive sectors such as agriculture production, increased productivity, establishment of a mining company, capitalization of ADMARC, and other areas that need more funding in the budget to meet the goals of MIP1,” explained the NPC commissioner.
Masoo touted private sector engagement as key in the implementation of the 2024/2025 budget hence the need for the private sector to be consulted.
She stressed the need for the government to revive and improve the Malawi Development Corporation for the country to grow its production industry for increased productivity.
In his remark, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Madalisto Kazombo said the analysis has provided insight to Members of Parliament on how they will contribute to the national budget to make the MIP1 a reality.
“As MPs, will work vigorously to rescue Malawi from poverty by fully helping the Minister of Finance and government in the implementation of the budget and making Malawi a haven for industrialization to effectively attain the Malawi 2063 vision,” Kazombo said.
Meanwhile parliament is still discussion the proposed 2024/2025 national budget which was presented in the house two weeks ago.
