Expect more rains this week -MET
The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has announced that many parts of the country will receive heavy rains this week.
This follows a month-long dry spell in the central and southern regions, causing panic among farmers as many crops have wilted.
The development raises fears of poor harvests this year, worsening the hunger situation which has already affected millions of people.
The department’s director Lucy Mtilatila has explained that the rains will be accompanied by flash floods especially in lakeshore districts.
“This week is wetter than last week, so, we are expecting some rains across the country from Monday to Thursday or Friday,” explained Mtilatila.
She added that the country is still in El-nino season till June this year.
Meanwhile, the department is appealing to the public to continue following weather update in a bid to exercise caution in light of the flash floods and strong winds.
