Castel increases cup sponsorship
Castel Malawi has increased the Castle Challenge Cup sponsorship to K400 million from K320 million.
This was announced in Blantyre last night during the competition’s awards gala.
Revealing the news, Castel Malawi’s managing director Thomas Reynaud said: “After the devaluation, we have decided to increase the stakes. We want to make the competition more competitive than it was in the just ended inaugural season.”
Reynaud also described the 2023 season as competitive adding that the company will continue sponsoring the cup with the new amount for the remaining two years of the agreement.
In reaction to the development, Football Association of Malawi president Fleetwood Haiya thanked the alcoholic beverages’ company for the sponsorship hike during economic hardships.
“We are very grateful with what Castel has done. Following an engagement which we had with them, we had asked them to review the sponsorship upwards. We expect more sponsors to also review upwards their stakes to make sure that our vision of transforming the game is achieved,” Haiya sais.
Following the hike, champions will pocket K55 million up from K50 million, while the money for the runners up has been maintained at K25 million with the semi-finalists pocketing K15 million from K12 million, quarter-finalists at K6 million from K5 million.
Teams that reach round of 16 will get K2.5 million from K1.5 million while on the other hand the regional league national finalists will be getting K1.5 million from K1 million whereas district winners will get K1 million from K700,000.
Golden boot, golden glove, player of the tournament winners will be getting K1 million from K500,000 while discovery of the tournament will now get K500,000 from K250,000 whereas players of the match awardees from the quarterfinals to the final will be getting K100,000 from K50,000.
