NRB warns on change of date of birth on IDs
The National Registration Bureau (NRB) is warning the public to refrain from requesting for a change or amendment of date of birth on National Identity Cards (ID)s.
This comes as people who do not meet the age requirement when applying for jobs in security institutions have been frequenting NRB offices requesting for a change in date of birth on the IDs.
Recently, the Malawi Defense Force, Malawi Police Service and the Malawi Prisons Service have been requesting for applications from candidates who are 26 years and below.
NRB principal secretary Mak Sambo has stressed that the law does not allow the bureau to make such amendments.
“Date of birth on national ID is a restricted parameter which cannot be changed anyhow by an individual request. The National Registration Act of 2010 mandates NRB to protect all particulars in the National Registration and Identification System as presented by every citizen at the time of registration,” Sambo stressed in a statement.
