A list of nominees for the 2023 Castel Challenge Cup individual players’ awards has been released, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced in a statement.
The awards are in four categories namely; Player of the Tournament, Discovery of the Tournament, Best Goalkeeper as well as Top goal scorer.
In the goalkeeper of the tournament award, the nominees are Rahman John of Bangwe All Stars, Pilirani Mapira from Silver Strikers as well as Bullets’ Richard Chimbamba.
For the top goal scorers, there are six players who are tied at five goals each. They include the duo of Peter Kasonga and Mphatso Philemon from MAFCO, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers striker Chiukepo Msowoya, Moyale Barracks forward Gastin Simkonda, Patrick Macheso of Silver Strikers and Emmanuel Saviel from Bangwe All Stars.
In the Player of the Tournament award, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets strikers Hassan Kajoke and Lanjesi Nkhoma have been nominated along with Silver Strikers midfielder Patrick Macheso.
On the other hand, Saviel and his teammate defender Talandila Chigaula together with Chitipa United left back Grem Lemela will battle it out in the Discovery of the Tournament award.
Competitions and communications director at the FA Gomezgani Zakazaka highlights that: “The Competitions Technical Study group produced the nominations after analysing the Competitions statistics.
“A selected group of coaches under the National Coaches Association, who were responsible for selecting Player of the Match in the competition and some football journalists will vote for the awards.”
The winners are expected to be will be crowned at an event set for Wednesday next week in Blantyre courtesy of the sponsors, Castel Malawi Limited.
