Christians, Muslims for peace talks in Mangochi

A high-level dialogue meeting is being planned to ensure co-existence between Muslims and Christians in Mangochi district.
The meeting will involve the Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM), traditional leaders and the police following violent scenes at Nselema last week.
An angry mob assaulted a Living Waters Church pastor, destroyed his property and torched the church as well as undressing women.
The EAM, Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) and the Quadria Association have been on a fact-finding mission in the area.
EAM general secretary Francis Mkandawire stresses the need for both the Muslims and Christians to live together in peace.
“Since the issue broke out, we have tried to bring the concerned parties together in order to get to the bottom of it and what is remaining is for us to meet the traditional leaders as well as the police on the development,” the EAM general secretary highlighted.
On his part, MAM national coordinator Dinala Chabulika has expressed sadness and has called on the need for the truth to prevail.
“We do not exactly know what really transpired since we have only heard the side of the Living Waters Church. We do not want to be dragged much into commenting on the development but we hope those entrusted to investigate the issue will give us an update,” said Chabulika.
