FAM distribute 8, 840 balls to schools
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has launched the FIFA Football for Schools programme, about two years after the pilot phase was introduced.
Under the new phase, the FA is targeting 171 schools across the country, thus a continuation from the 120 schools which were under initial chapter.
Speaking after launching the initiative at the ministry of education offices, Chichiri-Blantyre on Thursday, the association’s first vice president Christopher Kuyera described the programme as a game changer.
“There is no success through shortcuts. If you want to have a strong national team then we need to start from the grassroot just like we are doing in investing in schools. Our expectation is to make Malawi national team a force to reckon with in future,” said the FAM first vice president.
On his part, president of the Malawi Schools Sports Association Blackson Malamula thanked the gesture by FAM saying the pilot phase helped a lot.
He said: “The first phase was so good. This initiative is one way of reintroducing Physical Education. This really bridges the gap which we had in the schools.”
FAM is working together with the Malawi Schools Sports Association (MASSA) and the Ministry of Education for the successful implementation of the project.
There is a total of 8, 840 balls, and 40 of them will be distributed to each targeted school.
