FOMO in Super League
Friends of Mulanje Orphans (FOMO) Football Club have earned TNM Super League promotion after beating Blantyre’s Bangwe based side, Ntopwa FC 4-3 in post-match penalties.
The visitors from Mulanje were the first to score in the first half through Chimwemwe Kamoto’s header after being set by Hassan Lwemba from a freekick which was taken close to the 18-yard box.
Minutes later in the same half, Ntopwa responded through a freekick which was taken by Japhet Kadzimbi from the edge of the penalty box, driving the ball to the back of the top corner.
The second half was characterised with attempts that never changed the status quo of the game, making the match to end at a one-all draw result.
In the penalty shootouts, Ntopwa scored three and had the others saved while FOMO converted four, making them champions of the Thumbs Up Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) League and automatically earning a top flight league promotion.
Sunday’s Kamuzu stadium result completed a sixteen-team league which was remaining with a side from the south after the Northern Region had Baka City as their new representative in the top flight league while central region produced Creck Sporting Club (formerly known as Kawinga FC).
