Inkosi Gomani named Sports-for-All envoy
Inkosi ya Makhosi Gomani V has been named ambassador of ‘Sport For All’ initiative following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between him and the Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS).
Launched in 2021, the Sport For All initiative seeks to inspire the masses to participate in various sporting activities regardless of age, gender or disability so as to stay healthy.
Sports Council chairperson, Sunduzwayo Madise, justifies the Ngoni king’s appointment citing his love for sports, general influence and good reputation.
“After launcing the initiative in 2021, we realised that there was need for us to make it more vibrant since it was dying. So, we realised that we needed to have a system that will help in sustaining it.
So, we thought the chieftency was a viable tool that can be used to sustain the project and we settled for Inkosi ya Makhosi Gomani. He loves sports, he has influence through his position and he has a good reputation,” justified Madise.
Speaking at his Nkosini in Lizulu-Ntcheu, the Maseko Ngoni monarch hinted on partnering with parliamentarians and other stakeholders in executing his role.
“It is an honour to be named an ambassador of this initiative and I hope to work with various stakeholders in my area and the whole country for the betterment of the goal that we have to make sure that everyone is included in sports,” Gomani said.
