Ntopwa leaves for CAF Women’s tourney

Malawi’s representative at CAF Women’s Champion’s League|Cosafa Qualifiers, Ntopwa Super Queens, have this morning left for Durban, South Africa ahead of the tournament.

Led by their coach James Sangala, the 21-member squad has left through Chileka International Airport and will proceed to Durban by Bus from Johannesburg.

At the tournament which will run from the 30th of this month up to September 8, Ntopwa in Group A along with Lesotho Defence Force, Double Action Ladies from Botswana and Green Buffaloes from Zambia.

On Friday, the team had a fundraising dinner in Blantyre where they managed to raise K15.6 million.

President Lazarus Chakwera made a K4 million contribution while minister of sports Uchizi Mkandawire and his counterpart from local government Richard Chimwendo Banda contributed K500,000 each.

President Fleetwood Haiya, Super League of Malawi and all the s16 teams in the competition have contributed a total of K4 million.

On the other hand, Nyasa Capital Finance Limited has purchased airtickets for the team.

Goalkeepers: Mercy Sikelo and Bridget Daniel

Defenders: Olivia Phikani, Rose Alufandika, Slyvia Phiri, Joyce Makweya, Lyness Mbera, Bernadetta Mkandawire and Chimwemwe Chitsulo.

Midfielders: Mary Mbalangwe, Saliva January, Memory Chidetsa, Funny Magombo, Esther Chauluka and Monica Jester

Strikers: Mary Chindeya, Kondawo Banda, Yamikani Mhango, Lydia Nchochoma, Linda Kasenda, Vanessa Chikupira.
