Energy minister Ibrahim Matola has issued a passionate appeal to ESCOM officials to always remain friendly and professional when attending to customers’ complaints and concerns.

Matola made the appeal during his surprise visit at ESCOM’s customers service and call centre in Blantyre on Thursday.

According to Matola, the call centre is one of the most vital sections of the power transmitter and supplier and it directly links with clients and customers over various issues.

“Just as I did in Lilongwe, I thought of paying this surprise visit here so as to have firsthand information on how they work and handle numerous customers and clients who lodge different complaints and concerns to ESCOM,” Matola said.

He added that he decided to visit the center as early as six o’clock in the morning, so that he could really appreciate that the officers at the center work twenty-four hours.

“I was very impressed and to see these officers who have spent the whole night working and attended to almost all the complaints which were referred to the centre by customers who were calling for various issues mainly faults in their respective areas”

However, the Minister stressed on the need for ESCOM to do a lot of civic education on the numbers which clients and customers could use when calling the centre.

During the visit, it was reported that the centre received about 97 complaints from customers.

Speaking on behalf of the power supplier, ESCOMs board chairperson John Gift Mwakhwawa commended the Minister for his visit and pledged their commitment to improve their services to the satisfaction of clients and customers.
