One of the leading insurance companies, Old mutual Malawi, has extended its partnership with the Media Institute for Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi chapter for another three years.

The development follows the expiry of the current three-year partnership, this year, where the company has been sponsoring the Business Reporting category, recognising excellent business journalism with focus on social impact created by the savings, insurance and the investment sector to the tune of K4.5 million.

According to the corporate and marketing manager for Old Mutual Malawi Patience Chatsika, the new partnership will see her company continue sponsoring the business category to the tune of K6 million and provide training to MISA Malawi members on the recently amended pension law.

She observes that the media can play a crucial role in popularising the pension law through various programmes and articles on radio, Television, online and print.

‘’In our agreement, MISA Malawi through its membership will help us to unpack more on the amendments and their impact to the public or members of the pension fund while we also remain committed to continue sponsoring the business category,’’ said Chatsika.

Meanwhile, vice chairperson for MISA Malawi Chisomo Ngulube has described the new partnership as timely and calls on more corporate entities to emulate old Mutual’s gesture.

“We are very appreciative of the partnership that MISA Malawi has with Old mutual and we do not take this for granted because it is important that journalists should be aware of what they are reporting on so that their readers, listeners and viewers are well informed,’’ said Ngulube.

On the sidelines of the announcement of the new partnership, some journalist underwent a half day orientation session on the new amended pension law at Mtolankhani House in Lilongwe before taking it to Blantyre as well.
