Mzuzu stadium renovations to cost K850m
Mzuzu City Council – MCC needs at least K850 million to refurbish the recently condemned Mzuzu Stadium.
The facility has been banned from hosting Football Association of Malawi – FAM sanctioned matches until the owners improve the poor state of the playing pitch and players’ tunnel, publicise the stadium’s official capacity and fix the technical benches.
Council spokesperson, Macdonald Gondwe, says the city fathers will be embarking on a resource mobilisation drive so as to swiftly resolve the cited shortfalls including fixing the dilapidated perimeter fence and scoreboard.
“We will try to find possible ways of improving the status of the stadium as per required standards. Since we are talking about huge sums of money, we know that we will have to do resource mobilization initiatives as well as asking some external partners for this cause.”
Due to the facility’s closure, Moyale Barracks and Ekwendeni Hammers will be the affected clubs in the elite league since they were using the stadium as their home ground.
