No friendlies for The Flames in October FIFA week
The Malawi National Football team will not have any international friendly match during the October FIFA International window due to what the administrators are attributing to lack of funding and tight local football calendar schedule for the elite league.
This is one of the resolutions made at the weekend during the Football Association of Malawi’s 2nd Executive Committee meeting which was held in Mangochi.
Among other resolutions, the executive resolved to shift the FDH Bank Cup semifinals from 2 and 3 September to 16 and 17 the same month as players will not be released for local competitions fixtures during the two-week period.
The decision is to give the Flames ample time for the preparations of the 2023 AFCON qualifier against Guinea on 9 September at Bingu National Stadium.
The Flames will go into a full-time residential camp on Monday August 28 for two weeks in Lilongwe.
The exco also approved Patrick Mabedi to continue as caretaker coach for the Flames and to lead the side in the preparations.
It was also resolved that the FA should continue engagement with Capital Hill on funding for the Guinea match and the two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers to be played in November.
