Crime rate drops in Mulanje – Police – Capital Radio Malawi

Crime rate in Mulanje has decreased by 8.5 percent in the first six months of the year compared to the same period last year, police authorities in the district have revealed.

According to the biannual report released by the Research and Planning office within the police department, 741 cases were recorded last year compared to 678 cases which have been registered the same period this year.

During a Mulanje Police executive committee meeting recently however, Officer-In-Charge Owen Maganga highlighted that the station was challenged to contain theft cases and mob justice arguing some of the difficulties have been necessitated by Cyclone Freddy.

“It is very important for each police formation to have oversight committee which will be able to work hand in hand with the police in conducting sensitization awareness to the public on the negative effects of mob justice” Maganga explained.

Meetings of that sort analyses the station’s operations in order to make necessary improvements.
