Police in Chikwawa are keeping in custody three men for allegedly murdering their own brother over land disputes.

Chikwawa police spokesperson Dickson Matemba identifies the three as 37 year old Alfonso Alidi, 32 year old Anold Alidi and 27 year old Rabson Alidi.

The deceased has been identified as Dailo Alidi, 40, from Chafulumira Village Traditional Authority Makhuwira in the district.

According to Matemba; “on July 22 this year, the four had a fight following a disagreement ownership of the land left by their late father as one of them opted to sell the land.

After some hours the three returned to the place where the fight took place and found their brother dead. They then took his body and buried it near Chiuzimbi River in the area to conceal death,” explained Matemba.

According to the police spokesman, reports came to light through one of the suspect’s wife who tipped some community members about the ugly incident.

The matter was reported to Makhuwira Police unit where the law enforcers rushed to the scene and exhumed the body.

“Postmortem conducted by Makhuwira Health Centre revealed that death was due to severe head injuries secondary to assault” he added.

The three will appear in court to answer murder charges.
