National Bank donates to improve security
Authorities at Blantyre Police are optimistic of reducing crime rate through the use of CCTV cameras.
On Wednesday, National Bank Plc. donated 5 CCTV cameras worth K8,155,000 million to Blantyre police as a way of helping to safeguard the city.
The handover ceremony took place at the bank’s head office in Blantyre.
NBM’s chief financial officer Masauko Katsala hints that the bank believes in community driven solutions hence their intervention.
“We are very much aware that security and peace is one of prerequisites for conducting business, so, we cannot run business successfully if there is no security and peace. Therefore security comes as a priority. We believe this donation will go a long way in helping the police carryout their duties.” He said.
On his part, Officer In-Charge for Blantyre Police Aubrey Nyirenda commended the bank for the gesture.
“We appreciate to what the bank has done to us and we will make sure the gadgets that have been donated to us will be used in a right manner.” Nyirenda appreciated.
The deputy commissioner of police also added that; “we believe this will help our drive towards crime and traffic management in the city therefore bringing sanity.”
Nyirenda who encouraged community to report suspicious activities also revealed that Blantyre Police is aiming to have at least 50 cameras to have the whole city under surveillance.
The initiative is expected to be rolled out in the next two months.
