Homeland security, Immigration mum on dubious passport

Ministry of Homeland Security and the department of immigration officials are not coming out clearly on the alleged issuance of a diplomatic passport to a Nigerian tech entrepreneur Dozy Mmobuosi.
It is believed that the Nigerian who owns Tingo group was given the passport few hours after jetting into the country.
It is alleged that he has put in about K500 Million towards the Tigwirane Manja campaign, which aims at mobilizing resources for rehabilitation after Cyclone Freddy.
While in the country, Mmobuosi was with Champions of Tigwirane Manja campaign Former Presidents Bakili Muluzi and Joyce Banda at an event symbolizing his investment.

While social media is awash with photos of the purported application documents and the actual passport, the director general for the immigration department Charles Kalumo and the department’s public relations officer have all declined to comment on the matter which is attracting the public’s attention.
“No comment,” said Kalumo before cutting his line. However, when contacted the departments public relations officer Wellington Chiponde said he was in a meeting but could not answer his phone when called a few hours later.
This is happening at time a lot of Malawians are struggling to obtain the travel document, braving long queues under the scotching sun months after their applications due to lack of passport books.
However, a source from the ministry of homeland security confided in Capital Radio that some top officials at the Ministry have been having issues with the immigration Director general who is said to be working in isolation at the regional office in |Lilongwe instead of his office at the departments headquarters in Blantyre.
“There have been question marks on his conduct and leadership style at the department which have resulted in many officers suffering in silence,” said the source.
Meanwhile, sources within the Ministry are indicating that the Minister of homeland security Ken Zikhale Ng’oma will address the press on the matter probably tomorrow(Friday).
