Blantyre 42.195 race back with changes
This year’s Blantyre 42.195 kilometer race has been scheduled to take place on July 30, Malawi National Council of Sports – MNCS officials have revealed.
The council’s board member Hellen Tasosa who is also the sports development committee chairperson has revealed that the route has changed to three laps of 14 kilometers each arguing the decision is to suit the international standards.
“The new rout will star from Kamuzu Stadium to Chichiri roundabout up to Independence Ark down to Kasungu Crescent to Kwacha road MBC TV then Njamba CDSS to Kamba up to Mahatma Gandhi then left to Red Cross join Mandala road then Ginnery Corner roundabout up Masauko Chipembere highway (same loop 3 times), then finish inside the stadium at the VIP.” Clarified Tasosa.
Tasosa added that this year’s event is limited to athletes residing in Malawi and only the country’s citizens who are based outside the country.
On his part, chairperson of the event’s organizing committee Chifundo Tenthani has called on the corporate world to offer their support to the competition’s fifth edition.
He said; “This is a great opportunity for business entities to advertise through this event and we call upon them to partner us and support athletics in the country.”
Each athlete expected to take part at this year’s race is expected to pay a K20,000 registration fee anytime not later than July 25.
Champions in both male and female categories will walk away with K1,500,000 cash prize each with second and third placed taking home K,000,000 and K500,000 each respectively.
