Mulanje police hunt for suspected murderers

Police in Mulanje are looking for unknown assailants who assaulted to death a 23 year old man for allegedly stealing a bag of maize.

Mulanje police spokesperson, Innocent Moses has confirmed the development.

Moses has identified the victim as Patrick Kalawa.

According to Moses the incident occurred between the night of 25-26 April 2023 at Mwanakhu Trading center in the district.

It is reported that the deceased was a well known criminal who was released from jail in 2022.

He was also arrested on April 6, 2023 for theft but was released on court bail.

Moses explains that during the night of 26 April, people around the area were on high alert following a spate of house break-in cases.

“Later the same night, he was seen carrying a bag of maize walking past the trading center,” explains Moses.

This raised suspicion which led to his assault and death by a mob.

A medical report From Chambe Health Centre confirmed that death was due to severe loss of blood secondary to multiple wounds.

Meanwhile, police are warning people from taking the law into their hands and will arrest all perpetrators.
