NBM plc. boosts Takulandilani Expo preparations

The 2023 Takulandilani Malawi International Tourism Expo has received a massive financial boost, following a 15 Million kwacha cheque from one of the country’s high street banks, National bank of Malawi (NBM) Plc in Lilongwe.
The fourth edition of the expo will be held after a 3 year Covid19 induced break, which affected the tourism sector globally through travel restrictions.
Speaking after receiving the cheque, Principle Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism Chauncy Simwaka highlighted that the money will go a long way in addressing logistical issues.
The two-day event slated for the 26th and 27th of this month is pegged at 400 Million Kwacha.
Simwaka has revealthat over 100 exhibitors have confirmed and paid their participation fees, beating the Ministry’s target.
‘’We initially planned to have 70 exhibitors, but as of Tuesday, 108 exhibitors had confirmed with 57 international buyers expected to visit the country from today,’’ said Simwaka.
Simwaka is optimistic that the event will go as planned and bear the desired fruits.
‘’With the coming in of several partners like National Bank we are sure that everything will go thoroughly and that at the end of the event we will have convinced the world about our tourism potential,’’ added Simwaka.
Meanwhile, National Bank of Malawi Capital City Branch service centre manager George Nyirenda said they remain committed to supporting the tourism sector, as it is key in the attainment of the Malawi 2063 agenda.
‘’We know that such activities bring the world closer to our country which has great potential, hence our support towards this year’s expo,’’ said Nyirenda.
The first Malawi International Tourism expo was held in 2017 and two followed in 2018 and 2019 before the postponement of the subsequent ones in 2020,2021 and 2022 due to the covid19 Pandemic.
