The time is now: Malawi ready for Egypt

All is set for the second leg match of the Africa Cup of Nations-AFCON qualifier between Malawi and Egypt this afternoon at Bingu national stadium in Lilongwe.

The Flames are going into the game while trailing from a 2 nil defeat they suffered in Cairo on Friday.

The Flames – who recorded no attempt on goal – had a very poor outing as they only achieved 25 percent ball possession in the entire 90 minutes.

On the other hand, the Flames are under pressure following Guinea’s 3-2 win away to Ethiopia yesterday in group D.

It is obvious that Malawi have an uphill task to get their 2023 Afcon qualification hopes back on track but Coach Mario Marinica thinks otherwise.

“Overall I think we are well prepared and we will try to play much higher than what we did on Friday.

Regarding the chances of qualification, even if the game goes bad I believe we will still have a chance to find our way into the continental showpiece because there are still games for us to play.” Said Marinica.

His Egyptian counterpart Rui Vitoria is on the other hand hoping to earn victory over Malawi.

He says, “We are ready for this game and we hope to win it although we know that it will be tougher than what we had in Cairo of Friday.”

The match will start at 15:00 hours.
