Two female students to represent Malawi at Commission on Status of Women

Two form four students are set to represent Malawi at the 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women in New York, USA.

The meeting will be held under the theme: Closing the Gender Gap in Science, Technology and Innovation in Developing Countries.

Grace Bauleni from Luwinga Secondary School and Blessings Zimba from Mary Mount Catholic Secondary School will leave the country together with officials from the Ministry of Education on Monday next week.

Bauleni and Zimba are beneficiaries of the MiLab – Virtual Science Laboratories which is under the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The Virtual Science Lab App was developed by Mzuzu University students and members of staff to provide educators and students with interactive simulations of laboratory experiments for secondary school.

When she met the students recently Deputy Minister of Education Nancy Chaola Mdooko urged other young girls to emulate their courage.

The minister added that it was encouraging to see female learners thriving in science and technology innovations.

The Commission on the Status of Women-CSW is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, one of the main UN organs within the United Nations.

CSW is also described as the UN organ promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women.
