The Flames fail to leave for Saudi Arabia

The Malawi national football team has failed to leave for a 10-day camp training in Saudi Arabia today.

The Flames are planning to do camping in the Middle East country ahead of the back-to-back AFCON qualifiers later this month.

According to James Sangala who is Football Association of Malawi’s Technical Support Manager, the Flames have failed to leave for Saudi Arabia since their tickets have not yet been confirmed.

Sangala has however said the team will likely leave tomorrow following the latest development.

Coach Mario Marinica was expected to travel with a 25-member squad to the Middle East country.

Marinica has included Scotland based defender Kieran Ngwenya as well as Francisco Madinga and John Banda who ply their trade in Botswana and Mozambique respectively.

On the other hand, Patrick Mwaungulu of FCB Nyasa Bullets has been ruled out of the trip due to injury and he has since been replaced by Mark Fodya from Silver Strikers.

Defenders: Lawrence Chaziya, Miracle Gabeya, Stanely Sanudi (Mighty Mukuru Wanderers), Paul Ndhlovu (MAFCO), Blessings Mpokera, Gomezgani Chirwa, Alick Lungu (Nyasa Big Bullets) Kieran Ngwenya (Aberdeen), Nickson Mwase (Silver Strikers), Kelvin Kadzinje( CIVO)

Midfielders: John Banda ( UD Songo) Francsisco Madinga ( Galaxy FC) Frank Willard , Chawanangwa Gumbo, Patrick Mwaungulu (Nyasa Big Bullets), , Chimwemwe Idana( Silver Strikers), Gilbert Chirwa (Blue Eagles), Micium Mhone (Blue Eagles)

Strikers: Chiukepo Msowoya, Christopher Kumwembe, Gaddi Chirwa(Mighty Mukuru Wanderers), Stain Davie (Silver Strikers).

The Flames are expected to play the Pharaohs of Egypt in Cairo on March 24 and then at Lilongwe’s BNS four days later.
