3 Die in Lumbadzi minibus accident – Capital Radio Malawi

Three people have died and 11 others have sustained various degrees of injuries following a traffic accident in Dowa.

Dowa Police Station public relations officer, Gladson M’bumpha, has confirmed the incident in a statement.

The accident at Lumbadzi Bridge along Salima-Lilongwe road involved a Nissan Vannet minibus registration number LL1066, driven by Steve Matandika.

According to M’bumpha, the motor vehicle with 14 passengers on board was driving from the direction of Salima towards Lilongwe.

It is reported that upon reaching the rumble surfaces near Lumbadzi Bridge, Matandika lost control of the vehicle which then plunged into the river.

Three female passengers were confirmed dead at Chankhungu Health Centre in Dowa due to severe head injuries.

Among the survivors, according to M’bumpha, are five persons who suffered serious injuries and are admitted to Dowa district hospital, as well as six others treated as out-patients at Chankhungu Health Centre.

Meanwhile, the police have identified two of the deceased persons as Margaret Msenga, 46, of Kalulu village in TA Chimutu and Egifa Mnjolo, 35, of Mwenda village in TA Malili, both from Lilongwe.

According to M’bumpha, the third victim is yet to be identified while the minibus driver remains at large.
