President Chakwera faces legislators

Chakwera, to take MPs' questions shortly

As President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to appear before parliament this afternoon, critics are calling for a review of the process to ensure that its impact is significant.

Current provisions accords the president questions prior to his visit in parliament, which other schools of thought believe clearly defeats the whole process of ensuring transparency and accountability.

In an interview with Capital FM, chairperson of the Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC), Robert Mkwezalamba says they expect that Chakwera to address matters that were silent in the SONA and are of public interest.

He has since indicated that it would be useless to have the president there to answer questions that are not of significant importance, hence it would be ideal to have the president answer raw questions from the floor and not pre sent queries.

Meanwhile, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawmaker for Mangochi South Shadreck Namalomba is challenging President Chakwera to move with speed in finding solutions to the challenges facing Malawians.

The legislator made the sentiments in parliament while making his contributions to Chakwera’s State of the Nation Address.
