MP calls for Soche Cops promotion
A proposal is being made for Capital Hill to consider promoting Blantyre’s Soche Police officers, who foiled an attempted heist at Chichiri Shopping Mall on Monday.
The police wounded 6 suspected armed criminals who were reportedly targeting an individual who had carried cash to deposit to a bank at one of the financial institutions within the said mall.
Police have described the suspects as being linked to various criminal activities in some parts of the country.
Speaking on a point of order in parliament on Tuesday morning, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) legislator for Kasungu North Mike Bango made the proposal.
He suggested the need to reward the public security officer for being brave to avoid a planned criminality.
“Let us commend our police officers for being very brave in Monday’s situation. That is what we should be talking about when it comes to security of the country. May I take this opportunity to ask the minister of homeland security to consider those police officers when it comes to promotion within the service,” Bango emphasised.
Homeland security minister is yet to comment on the development.
Deputy spokesperson for Blantyre Police Aubrey Singanyama has revealed that the suspects are also alleged to be behind a recent hoax roadblock that was mounted in Thyolo district, which was used to steal from people.
