Castel Malawi joins cholera fight
Alcoholic beverages firm Castel Malawi, has added a muscle to the fight against the cholera outbreak with a donation to the ministry of health.
The company has donated materials worth K20 million to assist in the fight against the epidemic.
The company’s HR and Corporate Affairs Director Gloria Zimba has emphasized that they put the citizenry’s health at heart.
“We are not only concerned with the health of our employees but also that of our stakeholders at large. We know that if we do not take part in the fight against cholera then we are surely going to be affected in one way or the other since s our employees and consumers also come from those areas that have been badly hi.” She emphasised.
Speaking on behalf of the ministry, Mirriam Jere who is the Chief Medical Officer for Blantyre DHO has commended the gesture shown by the seasoned alcoholic beverage producer.
“We are very grateful for the donation from Castel Malawi, because these items will help a lot in the fight against the deadly diarrhoeal disease. We also want to call upon various stakeholders to partner us so that we can reach out to as many people as possible even in the remote areas.” Jere pointed out.
A total of 20 health centres from Blantyre, Machinga, Zomba, Lilongwe and Mzuzu have been earmarked to benefit from the donation.
As of Monday, Malawi had registered 39, 170 accumulative cases as well as 1, 277 deaths.
