Two Brazilians nabbed for cocaine possession

The Principal Resident Magistrate Court in Blantyre has sentenced two Brazilian nationals to four and a half years imprisonment with hard labour for being found in possession of cocaine.

The court had convicted them for possessing the dangerous drugs and importing drugs without permit.

Chileka Airport police publicist Dorah Machila has identified the two as 32 year old Maria Freire and 31 year old Estefani Moraes De Lacerda.

The two were arrested on November 17, last year, after being found with cocaine drugs weighing 3.6kgs and 3.5kgs upon arrival at the Airport.

According to Machila, a security check on their luggage detected some substance sealed in plastic bags.

Upon testing, it was discovered that the contents were cocaine drugs.

State prosecutor Damiano Kaputa pleaded with the court to give the suspects a custodial sentence in order to send a strong message to others.
