Chizuma Interdiction: Chakwera abusing power-DPP

The interdiction of the Anti-Corruption Bureau Director Martha Chizuma is a sign of abuse of power by President Lazarus Chakwera and his administration.
This, is according to the opposition Democratic Progressive Party-DPP.
In a statement, the party is strongly condemning Chizuma’s interdiction and demanding her immediate restatement.
The party’s publicity secretary Shadreck Namalomba questions the legality of the interdiction process, as the letter for the same has been signed by the secretary to the president and Cabinet Colleen Zamba and not the president who is the appointing power.
“The letter of interdiction by the SPC is a clear usurpation of the authority of the President. The letter of interdiction by the SPC is therefore unlawful, null and void,” says Namalomba in the statement.
Namalomba adds that the way Chizuma has been treated since attaining office reeks of the state machinery’s efforts to thwart the fight against corruption.
“Despite President Chakwera assuring Malawians that he has a strong desire to have Ms. Martha Chizuma at the ACB to steer the fight against corruption, President Chakwera is failing to walk the talk,” Namalomba adds.
Government interdicted Chizuma over a leaked phone conversation from last year in which she discussed what is deemed information privy to herself as the ACB director.
