Cholera vaccine demand rises – Capital Radio Malawi
10 February, 2025

The oral cholera vaccination campaign is receiving overwhelming public response as less than 50,000 doses remain in stock.

This is from a consignment of 2.9 million doses that the country received last November.

Funded by the Global Alliance of Vaccines – GAVI and facilitated by World Health Organisation (WHO), the support was made in a bid to help reduce further spread of the diarrhoeal disease.

The procurement was done through the International Coordinating Group on Vaccine Provision.

As of Sunday January 15, Malawi had recorded 24, 884 cases and 825 deaths since the first case was reported in March last year.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health Adrian Chikumbe however expresses worry, as the government is not likely to receive a new consignment of the vaccine anytime soon.

Chikumbe however describes the increase in the vaccine uptake as a positive development in the fight against the diarrhoeal disease.
