Tadikira’s bail ruling this afternoon

The High Court in Mzuzu has reserved the bail ruling to this afternoon in a case involving the country’s former President Peter Mutharika, Tadikira Mafubza.

The case was brought before High Court Judge Justice Gladys’s Gondwe this morning.

Tadikira’s legal team is applying for bail for their client who is answering murder and human trafficking charges.

He was arrested in November last year in connection with the mass grave of 30 suspected illegal immigrants discovered at Mtangatanga forest reserve in Mzimba District.

Mafubza who was not present in court this morning, has been on remand at Maula prison in Lilongwe since his arrest on November 23.

He is answering the charges alongside four other suspects namely David Luhanga, Thomas Gidson, Samuel Navaya and Duncan Kalulu.

While not opposing the bail application, the State is proposing for stringent bail conditions.

Among the proposed conditions include not less than two-million kwacha cash bond, two sureties bonded at K5 million non-cash, surrendering travel documents, reporting to Lilongwe police station once in a fortnight and not leaving Lilongwe without authorization from police.
