Silver Strikers let go of Chimbali
Super league team Silver Strikers has agreed not to renew the contract of its CEO Thokozani Chimbali.
The decision comes after Chumbali’s announcement that he will step down from his position upon the expiry of his contract in March this year.
It comes a week after some supporters stormed the club’s offices where they demanded his removal from his position following a decision not to renew contracts of three players namely Chisomo Mpachika, Levison Maganizo and Blessings Tembo ahead of the 2023 soccer season.
The supporters accused him of contributing to the club’s downfall especially in the just ended season where they finished without an accolade.
Reacting through his official Facebook post, Chimbali said he had advised board for the Central Bankers not to renew his contract following death threats he has lately been receiving from unknown people.
“Silver Strikers is my home but when your life is at stake, consider your family first. My contract ends on 30th March 2023 with the company and I have asked the Board not to renew it. Meanwhile I have decided to take leave till the end of my contract. Don’t take death threats lightly.” read the statement.
In a statement, the club has disclosed that it will not renew the contract, and that he will proceed on leave in the remaining months of his tenure.
The club has since appointed its Marketing Manager Faith Mzungu as its interim CEO.
