National Bank ‘dunks’ K450 million into college basketball
Basketball Association of Malawi (BASMAL) can afford a big smile following a fresh commitment by National Bank of Malawi (NBM) PLc. to continue sponsoring the MO626 College Basketball for the next three years.
The high street bank has not only reaffirmed commitment towards the university tournament, it has increased the package to K450 million, up from K155 million that was used to sponsor the same in the previous three years from 2017.
Commended for being a disciplined sport, the tournament will be receiving K150 Million each year.
Speaking at the sponsorship renewal ceremony, the bank’s Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager Akossa Hiwa revealed that the money will also be used to maintain and construct Basketball courts.
“We are hoping that this game fosters team work, discipline and collaboration amongst students in all tertiary institutions,” said Hiwa.
While describing the development as an early and best Christmas present from the bank, BASMAL Vice President Banthari Banda lauded their conduct in previous seasons which he believes has glued the financial institution to the association.
“There were a lot of things that were involved and we made sure to meet those conditions. We believe we have not put our sponsors’ name into disrepute hence their willingness to come back.” Bantha emphasized.
During the tournament’s last edition in March this year, Malawi Assemblies of God University men’s and ladies teams were crowned champions after showing splendid performances.
