Mangochi ADMARC employee nabbed for alleged theft
An ADMARC employee is in police custody in Mangochi for allegedly stealing 9.8 million kwacha after selling 32,900 kilograms of maize.
The suspect, 43 year-old Maganizo Chitseko was working as a cashier at Kawinga depot.
He faces charges of theft by public servant, contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code
According to Mangochi police publicist Amina Tepani Daudi, Chitseko claimed that he was robbed of the money by unidentified criminals.
The suspect told the police that he was attacked around Tsanya forest while on a motorcycle on his way to Mangochi ADMARC to deliver the cash.
He allegedly sustained minor bruises on his stomach, thighs and arms believed to be of a razor blade and was rushed to Mangochi district hospital.
But Daudi has said the suspect faked the attack and that authorities at Mangochi ADMARC were not aware about the delivery of cash.
Manager for Mangochi ADMARC Ferestus Marko further told the police that cashiers are not allowed to travel with huge sums of cash on their own.
The suspect who hails from Mpinda Village, in the area of Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba will appear in court soon.
