DoDMA reaches out to disaster struck households
At least 22,000 people affected by disasters on the onset of the rains in the 2022/23 season have received relief assistance.
The total number of affected people who require assistance is 27,504.
The rain-related disasters have also claimed 19 lives across the country.
14 of them died due to lightning strikes and 5 died after house walls collapsed on them during stormy rains.
The Department of Disaster Management Affairs-DODMA has since provided maize, family tents, kitchen utensils and plastic sheets for temporal roofing, to the affected people.
So far, stormy rains, strong winds and lightning have affected Balaka, Chikwawa, Chiradzulu, Chitipa, Dedza, Dowa and Lilongwe districts.
Other affected districts are Machinga, Mangochi, Mchinji, Mulanje, Mzimba, Mzuzu City, Neno, Nkhotakota, Ntcheu, Phalombe, Salima, Thyolo and Zomba.
Commissioner for DoDMA Charles Kalemba has assured the public that all affected people will receive assistance.
