Malawi gets 44 medals at Region 5 Games

Malawian teams have won 44 medals at the just ended Region 5 Youth Games.
The sporting event which took place in Lilongwe, saw teams from 10 African countries compete in various disciplines.
On the final medal table, Malawi is in sixth place with eight gold medals, 10 silver and 26 bronze.
According to the Malawi national council of sports, Malawi’s performance this year is an improvement from the previous edition
“The record that was set last year in Maseru Lesotho of 29 medals has been broken. We thank the athletes for never giving up and for still fighting up to the end,” the council writes on its facebook page.
The 8 gold medals are all in athletics, 6 silver for Taekwondo 3 silver in athletics 1 silver in judo.
The 26 bronze medals have gone to Athletis(9),Basketball(3),Boxing(4) Volleyball (1)Taekwondo(5), football (2) and Judo (2).
The country with the most medals is South Africa, which clinched a total of 114 of them.
Taking the second and third spot is Angola and Zambia respectively.
Mozambique anchors the medal table with only 17 accolades.
