Malaria vaccine administration to commence November

The Ministry of Health is set to launch and start administering the malaria vaccine, next month.

The first phase of the vaccination is expected to target children.

Malawi was among 7 countries that took part in a research on the malaria vaccine in 2014 to determine its effectiveness.

Health Minister Khumbize Chiponda recently said malaria accounts for over 60% of hospital admissions during the rainy season.

Chiponda therefore revealed that the first target will be children who mostly die of the disease during the period.

The Malawi Health Equity Network-MHEN appeals to the public to welcome the malaria vaccine as any other jabs administered in the country.

MHEN Executive Director George Jobe has disclosed that this vaccine is injectable and different from the oral polio vaccine.
