EU ambassador to Malawi Rune Skinnebach points out that the K3 billion fund will go through the UNDP election basket which is a vehicle funding from all donor partners.

Chief of Mission for the EU Observer Mission on elections Miroslav Poche indicates that matters of technical and budgetary support are very primal to the mission.

Poche- committed to provide support

“We had a fruitful discussion with the chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission about technical and budgetary support of their work, from our point of view this is of key importance,” Poche said.

Poche who was part of the EU observer mission during the 2019 tripartite elections, has however pointed out that there are recommendations from outside that aim to ensure that there is transparency by the political parties in their campaigns.

The EU Observer Mission chief has also called on political parties to adhere to code of conduct as stipulated in the Political Parties Act.
