Local health authorities have been meeting the donor community to lobby for financial support in the fight against Cholera.
According to a tweet by the World Health Organization in Malawi, on Monday this week Health Minister Khumbize Chiponda had an audience with donors and partners to lobby for more funding towards Cholera response, prevention and control, to enhance coordination.
As of Monday 3 October, over 3 804 cases of Cholera had been recorded in the country since the outbreak in March earlier this year.
So far a total of 110 deaths have been registered.
Minister of Health Chiponda has disclosed that they want to ensure that they contain the outbreak before commencement of the rains.
“We want this Cholera outbreak contained before the rain season which is coming soon. The Ministry of Health is committed to implement the new revised cholera response plan to save lives, control the spread and prevent future outbreaks,” said Chaponda.
The World Health Organization has since stressed on the need to strengthen response across sectors.
