Agriculture authorities team up to bust syndicate duping unsuspecting farmers
Agriculture authorities are working with various stakeholders including the police to uncover a syndicate of unknown people duping farmers though a purported business network.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture the unscrupulous people under a Farmer Business Network-IFAD are using social media platforms.
Speaking in an interview with Capital FM, Ministry of Agriculture spokesperson, Gracian Lungu explains that the fraudsters have no links with the ministry and the International Funds for Agriculture (IFAD).
“The purported letters of agreement bearing the logo of the Ministry of Agriculture, with a name and a purported signature of the minister of agriculture, Honourable Loving C Lowe MP circulating on social media are fake, a dummy and just an imitation,” explains Lungu.
“We are advising farmers to crosscheck the documents and report such to relevant authorities because this is happening in all parts of the country,” adds Lungu.
Lungu further explains that the ministry is working with the police, the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) and various ministries that have also been affected by these dubious people including the Ministry of Health.
