Blantyre 42.195 km race winner stripped off title for cheating
Organisers of the recently held Blantyre 42.195 kilometer race are lamenting the failure by this year’s athletes to beat the current record time for the race
While describing the event as a success, the event’s technical organizing chairperson, Mzee Makawa, says it is worrying that athletes are failing to break Henry Moyo’s 2:18:05 hours record.
This year’s winner has covered the distance at 2:32:16 hours.
Mphatso Nadolo finished first , but his celebration was short lived, as he is disqualified after using a shortcut instead of a normal route.
The competition’s two-time winner was also accused of pushing a guider when he was being directed to the normal route.
Instead, Austin Sukali who initially finished second has been crowned winner of the race.
Macdonald Maganizo and Edson Kammanja have finished second and third respectively.
In the women’s category, Nalise Chirwa has finished top while Doris Fisher and Teresa Master have finished second and third respectively.
