The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) is working on expanding trade with Belgium following observations of strong business prospects on the European country’s market.
MITC confirmed this following increased presence of Malawi’s tobacco, tea and macadamia nuts in Belgium -prompting Lilongwe to initiate a bilateral investor forum.
In 2020, Malawi’s exports to Belgium were in excess of 160 million dollars; making it one of the biggest destinations in Europe at a time exports to United Kingdom are dropping.
According to MITC Chief Executive Officer, Paul Kwengwere, the Belgian chamber of commerce is ready to engage Malawian businesspersons in collaborations that could benefit the two countries.
Kwengwere, has cites products like sugar, Macadamia nuts, tea and tobacco as commonly accepted in Europe, hence the need to hasten penetration.
