Two nabbed over Mikundi Police Unit arson

Police have arrested two people in connection to the torching of a police unit in Mchinji district.
An angry mob in the area of TA Mduwa in in the district on Monday set ablaze Mikundi police unit over misunderstandings over a crime suspect.
Spokesperson for the police in the district Maxwell Jailos has confirmed that the police have managed to nab two men.
According to eye witnesses, the angry people demanded the police to release a man who is suspected to have allegedly murdered a young man around Mikundi trading center on Sunday.
Following the misunderstandings with the police, the angry community members pelted stones before police fired teargas to calm the situation.
Later in the evening, the angry people reorganized themselves and torched the police unit.
The incident comes at a time the law enforcement authorities are yet to resuscitate some of their police stations and units that have suffered arson by communities.
The police have fallen victim to such assault as a result of their efforts to quell mob justice incidents.
Malawi Police Service is yet to rehabilitate another unit at Masawula in Lirangwi Blantyre which was torched by irate community members.
