Tonse Administration neglecting Chilima’s reforms
Critics are faulting the government for failing to implement the Public Sector Reforms championed by Vice-President Saulos Chilima.
The VP started the initiative during the DPP regime in a bid to ensure efficiency and productivity in public institutions.
When the Tonse Alliance came into power Chilima presented a report to President Lazarus Chakwera on the reforms after assessing operations of various institutions in the country last year.
The public however continues to raise concerns over poor service delivery of government institutions.
Executive Director of the Centre for Social Accountability and Transparency (CSAT) Willy Kambwandira has described the reforms as mere rhetoric.
“We haven’t seen real and genuine implementation of these public sector reforms, much as they are making sense on paper we have not seen implementation”, Kambwandira says.
Kambwandira adds that the development is now leading to continued inefficiencies, poor service delivery and financial mismanagement in the public sector.
Adding to the matter political analyst George Phiri faults a lack of awareness of such reform plans, hence affecting implementation.
“What needs to be done when there are such plan, is that they have to be made known so that each citizen knows their role to achieve the objects”, says Phiri.
