Eighteen people, who were injured in a road accident involving a Malawian bus in Zimbabwe, have arrived in the country today, through Mwanza border today.
Three people, all from Mangochi district, have died in the accident which happened on Wednesday evening at Nyamapanda in Zimbabwe.
The bus belonging to Chipozani Company was travelling from Lilongwe to South Africa.
Mwanza border Immigration Spokesperson Pasqually Zulu confirmed to Capital FM about the arrival of the 18 injured people, who have since been taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for treatment.
“The survivors have arrived and they were brought in by the same bus company that left Malawi on Thursday,” Zulu said.
Zulu further disclosed that only the survivors have arrives and arrangement are being made for the transportation of those that were killed in the accident.
“Efforts were made so that they can bring in the three deceased, but processes to get ambulances were delayed hence leaving the bodies behind,” Zulu added.
Zulu explained that the accident reportedly happened after the driver was trying to avoid a head on collision.
“The Cause of accident is still unknown, but unconfirmed reports indicate that the bus driver was trying to avoid a head on collision with an oncoming vehicle that was overtaking a truck ,”the Mwanza Immigration PRO further explained.
Meanwhile, the Government has sent an ambulance to Zimbabwe to collect the bodies for burial in Mangochi.
