The Government is expected to spend over 832 Million Kwacha to clear arrears for traditional leaders’ honoraria.
The total number of chiefs expected to receive the funds is 42.

In the 2018/2019 national budget, government raised upward the honoraria for traditional leaders.
“Minister of Local Government Nankhumwa said, all arrears are going to be settled come end April, the process has begun,” Local Government Spokesperson Mughlabase Mughogho said.
From July to date however, the traditional leaders were still receiving the old honoraria despite the new hike being affected.

“There are teams going around, paying chiefs their arrears, from July 2018 to December,” She said.
Mughogho added that the arrears are at the rate of the revised honoraria.
