Malawi National Under-23 Football Team will start its residential camping on Sunday, February 3, 2019 in preparation for U-23 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) second round qualifiers against Zambia in March, 2019.
The team has been conducting non-residential training in the past two weeks in all the three regions together with the senior team which is preparing for the 2020 Olympic Qualifiers.
Under 23 Coach, Meke Mwase has named a 33-man squad in preparation for this year’s (AFCON) qualifiers which will be camping at the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Mpira Village Offices in Blantyre.
Mwase said the long camp would give them enough time to prepare for the match since for the past weeks, the team has been training together with the senior team which is also engaged in a different competition.
Malawi will host Zambia at the Kamuzu Stadium in the first leg on March 20,2019 with the return leg set for March 24,2019 in Lusaka.
According to a statement from FAM through its Director of Competitions and Communications, Gomezgani Zakazaka, 33 players are expected to arrive in camp on Sunday by 6:00 pm.
The 33-man squad comprise five Goalkeepers; Rabson Chienda of Nyasa Big Bullets (NBB), Pilirani Mapira (Mzuni), Hastings Banda-Civil Sporting Club, Brighton Munthali from Silver Strikers and Charles Thom from Dwangwa United.
Defenders: Charles Petro (NBB), Trevor Kalema and Mark Fodya both from Silver Strikers, Lawrence Chaziya-Civil Sporting Club, Hadji Wali-Silver Strikers, Chembezi Denis – Mighty Be Forward Wanderers, Precious Sambani-(NBB) and Lusekero Malema-Karonga United.
Midfielders: Peter Banda-Griffin Young Stars, Isaac Kaliati-Mighty Be Forward Wanderers, Chimwemwe Idana and Mike Mkwate-NBB, Ernest Tambe-Mighty Be Forward Wanderers Laurent Banda-TN Stars, Gregory Nachipo-Blue Eagles.
Ben Manyozo-NBB, Francis Mkonda-Masters Security-Levison Maganizo-Silver Strikers, Jack Chiona-Silver Strikers, Kelvin Kadzinje-Mzuni, Victor Lungu-Karonga United and Juma Yatina- Masters Security.
Strikers: Batison Chikaiko-Tigers, Patrick Phiri-Nyasa Big Bullets, Hassan Kajoke-Nyasa Big Bullets, China Chirwa-TN Stars, Raphael Phiri-Civil Sporting Club and Lloyd Njaliwa-Moyale Barracks.
