Limbe Police Station has assured the public that it has put in measures to ensure that there is reduction of crime in the city during Christmas and New Year festivities.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Wednesday, Deputy Public Relations Officer (DPRO) for Limbe Police Station, Widson Nhlane said the police have doubled their efforts to deal with high crime rate that is associated with the month of December.
He said the Police establishment has intensified both foot and vehicle patrols in the crime prone areas to ensure that life and property were safe.
“We want to assure people that security has been tightened in readiness for the coming season, our police officers are everywhere to ensure that people’s property and life in particular is safe.
“For the past weeks, our patrol team has been conducting sweeping exercises in the market to make sure that no one hangs around the market after 6 PM,” Nhlane added.
The DPRO said the Police have increased the number of Police Officers who do day patrols in different spots in the city, saying the measures were meant to reduce the rate of crimes during the festive season.
He advised the business people who would be coming in Limbe for various errands to ensure that they keep their property and money safe from the criminals who may take advantage of the festive season.
“We want to tell the public that they should not be worried about security because officers are on the ground doing their work,” he said. “We are also warning those involved in criminal activities that once they get caught will face the long arm of the law,” Nhlane pointed out.
Limbe Market is one of the busiest and biggest markets in Malawi which serves as the meeting place for different business people in the country.
